Magazine Þórbergssetur

Þórbergssetur, The Writers’ Museum, is located between Skaftafell Park and Höfn. The museum was built in memory of author Þórbergur Þórðarson in 2006. Inside are exhibits that tell the story of Þórbergur’s life (1888-1974) and his artistic vocation, as well as a display of the work by other famous Icelandic writers. The museum also encases a lovely restaurant where tourists can stop for a bite to eat in the midst of exploring the site. Some intriguing architecture includes the northern wall of the museum, which is designed in the shape of book spines and serves as a symbol of the literary culture in Iceland. Þórbergssetur Berjaya Hotels

In addition to showcasing Iceland’s culture-rich authors, the museum offers a historic account of life in this region of Iceland. Prior to technological advances in farming, the people of the region were subjected to harsh living conditions that required subsistence farming. One of the interesting stories about these farmers includes having to climb steep, treacherous mountains in order to rescue sheep that had gone awry. Join a guided tour at Þórbergssetur to learn more about the Icelandic heritage.

Þórbergssetur is open to the public all year round; visits between September 15th and May 15th require advanced booking.
