For those in search of local art and history, the Cultural Center (Duushús) should be your first stop. This complex houses the Reykjanes Maritime Museum, the Museum of Art, and the Museum of Heritage. This is a great place to get an introduction to Icelandic life.

No trip to Iceland is complete without a visit to the Blue Lagoon. By far the most popular tourist destination in the country, this famous hot spring is an ideal remedy for weary explorers. Aside from its soothing geothermal pools, the Blue Lagoon offers an enticing variety of spa treatments and dining options (there’s even a swim-up bar). A perfect outing for families and couples, the Blue Lagoon is a must-do.

Viking enthusiasts should make a stop at Viking World (Vikingaheimar), home to an exact replica of a ninth-century Viking vessel. In the year 2000, this ship sailed from Iceland to New York, in celebration of Leifur Eiríksson’s historic journey to North America. The current exhibition of the ship was developed in cooperation with the Smithsonian Institution. Viking World also features archaeological finds from the local region, as well as an exhibition on Norse mythology.nd couples, the Blue Lagoon is a must-do.

If you like to get outdoors, Reykjanes’ natural landscape is well worth exploring. Like all of Iceland, Reykjanes is a volcanic zone, full of lava fields, rugged sea cliffs, mysterious caves, and striking rock formations. Many of the coastal areas are great spots for birdwatching.
