Iceland's Ice Cave Tour

Magazine Iceland's Ice Cave Tour

The Iceland Ice Cave is a man-made tunnel and cave that has been drilled and carved into the Langjokull glacier. The tunnel itself is about 200 meters long and ends in a large ice-cave.  Basically, this is a tour that will allow you to walk back in time to like the middle ages, when this ice was formed. You will be able to take a tour through a 3 meters wide tunnel deep into the blue-ice heart of this magnificent glacier.

Tours start and end in Reykjavik via bus pick up at a variety of convenient locations. You will be taken to the ‘base-camp’ of the tour itself, a distance of approximately 130km (less than 2 hours).  Along the way, you'll get to do some great sightseeing!

Next. To get to the top of Langjokull glacier, you will be driven up the glacier in an 8-wheel glacial super truck that - get this - was converted from a NATO cruise missile launcher.  The truck can accommodate 40 people in warmth, safety and comfort.  The monster truck will take you up to nearly the top of the glacier and to the ice cave’s entrance.  The whole tour is handled by expert guides that will keep you safe and informed about the natural phenomena you’ll be seeing.

The tunnel has cool LED lighting, and along the way you’ll see interesting information about the glacier.  The ice cave also has interior chambers with exhibitions, a small cafe (you’ll probably appreciate a cup of hot coffee in this environment) and a small chapel - talk about an original setting for a marriage...

And, when you exit the ice cave, don’t forget you will get to experience what it is like to be high-up on a glacier in one of the most outrageously beautiful places on Earth.  On a clear day, you will be able to see the curve of the Earth.

This is likely an experience that most will not want to miss. Iceland is already a singular experience as it is, with its popular glacier walk tours - and much more; now you can walk inside a glacier!
