Husband and wife Gudmundur Sigurhansson and Margret Runolfsdottir, or Gummi and Magga as they are often called, have been the managers of Icelandair Hotel Fludir since 2001. They both have decades of experience in the hospitality and hotel business. Gummi is a chef but his hobbies revolve around cars and football, with Arsenal being his favourite team. Magga’s main hobby is bridge and she attends the Hrunamanna Bridge Club once a week for practice.
As a couple their main interest is horses, and two of these creatures – Staell and Hugur, a horse that is considered one of the best thoroughbreds in Iceland – are kept in stables at Langholtskot in Fludir. Their favourite Icelandic artist is Tolli and many of his pieces can be viewed at the hotel. Gummi and Magga agree that it is hard to choose just one favourite place in the nearby surroundings but mention that Laxargljufur canyon is probably at the top of their list because of its magnificent view. This summer a natural hot spring in which one can bathe will open at Hvammur, just 5 minutes walk from Hotel Fludir, and this will probably also rank high on their list of favourites.
Fludir grows more vegetables than any other region of Iceland, so it is no surprise to discover that all ingredients used at the hotel restaurant are fresh and delivered daily from the greenhouses around the establishment. The Langholtskot farm recently started to offer first-class organic beef, which will soon be on Icelandair Hotel Fludir’s menu.
