The Icelandic modern art project at Loftleidir

Contemporary art is a reflection of our lives, nature and society. Alive, tangibleand hopefully a provoking experience, seen with the eyes of the artist.

Each Art room has been dedicated to one of Iceland’s most distinguished contemporary artists with some of their work, biography and pictures on display. The Art Rooms are decorated to a high standard and offer all the amenities you would expect. The following artists are represented at Loftleidir, Kristín Gunnlaugsdóttir, Þórdís Aðalsteinsdóttir, Hulda Hákon, Ólöf Nordal, Rúrí, Ragna Róbertsdóttir, Hildur Bjaradóttir, Helgi Þorgils Friðjónsson, Sigurður Árni, Eggert Pétursson, Georg Guðni, Birgir Snæbjörn Birgisson and Sigtryggur Bjarni Baldvinsson.

Why contemporary art? Icelandic contemporary art can be interpreted as how the artist reflects on Icelandic reality, national life, nature and thoughts. Contemporary art is alive, tangible and a provoking experience seen through the eyes of the artist. This provides a unique insight for our foreign and domestic guests into contemporary Icelandic society.
