The Gimli Suite is locally known as "the Bobby Fischer" suite. Yes, that's right, the divisive, volatile genious and one-time world chess champion and legend, Bobby Fischer.
Love him or hate him, Bobby captured the world back in 1972 when he beat Boris Spassky right here in Reykjavik. And, Bobby Fischer stayed in the Gimli Suite during the competition. Back then the Reykjavik Natura was called the Hotel Loftleidir.
Decades later, and seeking to avoid deportation to the United States, Bobby accepted an offer of Icelandic citizenship. Politics aside, this was a gesture of gratitude on behalf of the people of Iceland for his genius and for the country's role in the competition. Upon his return he stayed, once again, in the Gimli Suite for many months.
The Gimli Suite, beside its Bobby Fischer provenance, is the perfect blend of comfort and style. Enjoy this spacious, one-bedroom suite featuring 2 bathrooms, a separate living area with sofa; perfect for hosting friends or just sitting back and enjoying the view - and maybe a game of chess.
